Journal Blog 1 (p. 7…18)

Questions I want to wright about:

-       Write about something happening in the book that you can relate to? How did you react, Try to put yourself in the characters shoes and say why you think they feel the way the way they do.

In these pages in the beginning of the story, we get to know main characters a little bit. I know now Mr. and Mrs. Birlings and their children Eric and Sheila, who is just engaged with her love Gerald.

I want to pick out Erics character. I realized that Eric reacted in some dialogs between the different members unsuitable. For example, he suddenly started laughing in the middle of a happy family talk. (p. 9) Another example for his dubious behaviour is showed on page 11. In this situation, he makes an unpleasant statement about Sheila, after the parents have wished all the best for the young couple. This expression was not very friendly and as I already said: very misplaced! As I read this part of the story I started to thinking about Eric and his possible views. Because of that I try to put myself in his situation I recognize, that he presumably was a little bit jealousy of the fresh engagement of his sister and Gerald.

Also in my live I experienced two engagements from my brothers and sisters. But if I found out, that my sister- and one year later my brother- is going to marry, I was very happy and pleased about this fact.

Because of these events I can say, that the behaviour from Eric was different from mine, at least in this situation.

  1. Ok, though you weren't really able to relate with Eric here. But you've experienced the same situation as him and felt differently than what you think he is feeling. That's interesting. Pay attention:
    wright --> write
    started to thinking --> started to think (after "to" always put infinitive)
    jealousy --> that's the noun. you need the adjective "jealous" here.
